LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A Kentucky schoolteacher who was critically injured in mid-April while trying to break up a student fight is showing signs of improvement at a rehabilitation center in Atlanta.
A spokesman for the Shepherd Center said Monday that Dewayne Bunch, who also is a Kentucky state representative, is expected to be moved out of an intensive care unit and into a rehabilitation unit shortly. Spokesman Larry Bowie told The Associated Press that Bunch was admitted April 28 to the center, which specializes in treating spinal cord and brain injuries.
Bunch was punched in the head and fell to the floor while trying to break up a fight between two students at a high school in Williamsburg, southeastern Kentucky. The two students were charged with assault.
